Over its long history, Russian avant-garde has been affected by the innovative achievements of many artistic trends. Some are only interesting in the context of the evolution of Russian art, others are closely related to the pursuits of European modernism, and others still have made an undeniable contribution to the foundation of all modern art. Constructivism can only belong to last category. This 1920s—30s movement didn’t just make its original impact on art, graphics, architecture, films and design, but also clearly reflected the characteristics of the unique historical experiment that was the October Revolution of 1917 and the birth of the world's first socialist state. These events defined Russian constructivism and based it not only on formal, but on social exploration.
